A BIG THANKS goes out to our chaperones, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Marchetti, and Mr. Brossett for helping us at the event! We couldn't have done it without your help and support! Student Council's Pennies For Puppies
Over the past month, the students at Westgate School had the opportunity to collect loose pennies to benefit the Second City Canine Rescue Organization. Headed by Student Council, our school was able to collect $1,201.29 dollars! Students also donated dog food, toys, and supplies to the organization.
Last week, one of our classroom representatives, Peyton, took time out of her busy Saturday schedule, to deliver the final check and supplies to the Second City Canine Rescue. Below are pictures from the collection event. Way to go Peyton, Student Council, and to all those students that supported this worthwhile event!

Get Excited For the Next Two Days!
Hi Parents!
I would like to remind you about two major events coming up this Wed. and Thurs.!:
1. Museum of Science and Industry Field Trip is Wednesday!
The buses for this trip leave at 9:15 am. Please make sure that your child is on time for school at 9:05 am, so that they don't miss the bus for the trip! Also, unless your child pre-ordered a lunch, please make sure that they pack a DISPOSABLE sack lunch and drink. (Do not pack it in a lunchbox----paper bags only!).
The following students pre-ordered a school sack lunch for tomorrow:
Jeff C., David C., Libby D., Jack I., Liz C., and Elliot T.
Also, for the sake of being fair to everyone, the students will not be allowed to purchase any type of souvenirs and/or food at the museum. Our chaperones will be given strict instructions to make sure that these events do not happen. Therefore, please help us out and not send any type of money with your student on this trip! Thanks for your assistance with this!
2. Our Curriculum Snapshot is this Thursday from 2:05-2:45 pm!
Please note the change in time to 2:05 pm. Please join us in our classrooms to view a WEX Writing Lesson! We promise that all of you parents that have a student in kindergarten will be able to make your 2:45 pm performance on time! No worries!
Get excited for a fun two days! We hope to see you on Thursday!

Our Passion Driven Classroom
Taken from the book The Passion-Driven Classroom by Angela Maiers and Amy Sandvold, students in our classroom are given time throughout the school week to discover, research, and report upon their own passions for learning!
Once a week along with our GIFT Teacher Mrs. Murray, our class has the opportunity to explore a topic of their own choosing. Students first brainstorm a list of topics that they are passionate about. Next, each student comes up with a favorite passion that they would like to research. Afterwards, the student poses an essential question about their passion that they would like to answer. Each student is then responsible for researching and recording information that answers their essential question. In the end, the students turn their passions into final presentations for the rest of the class to read and learn more about their passion.
Be sure to ask your child about their passion presentation and have them share their findings with you! Many students in our class chose to record their presentation by recording their findings on their own designed webpage. All access webpage information can be found stapled inside of your child's homework folder.
You can also take to following steps to view your child's passion page( if they created one):
1. Go to: http://students.weebly.com
2. Username: (your child's name) followed by the word 3rd. (ex.: harry3rd)
3. Password: passion
